New Fiat 124 Spider Finally Breaks Cover

It's been truly a long hold up, yet the open-main two seater that restores the 124 Spider nameplate arrives, in front of its official presentation not long from now at the LA Auto Show opening.

Fiat has made no mystery that its first roadster in quite a while (recall the Barchetta?) depends on the Mazda MX-5/Miata stage. Yet it guarantees that it is no insignificant identification designing and, in spite of basic parts, offers a simply Italian driving background.

"There's no better approach to commend 50 years of the Fiat 124 Spider than to bring back this notorious roadster, matching its Italian styling of the past with the majority of the current execution and innovation of today", said Olivier François, Head of FIAT Brand, FCA – Global. "The 124 Spider extends the FIAT family, conveying to advertise yet another head-turning, enjoyable to-drive vehicle for our clients."

How about we begin with the raison d'être of all roadsters: looks. Yes, its extents are for all intents and purposes the same as its Japanese twin, something that was normal at any rate. The bodywork has been totally updated and there are ovoid headlamps, another upper and lower grille, a professed "shoulder" at the back which reaches out at the entryway and interesting back lights that infer other current gathering models.

Not at all like the sheetmetal, the inside is lifted unaltered from the MX-5, from the dashboard outline to the instrument bunch and the atmosphere controls. There's a Fiat logo on the guiding haggle, that is about it. Mind you, that is no awful thing following the Miata is a cosseting little roadster with a flawless driving position –it's simply that perhaps a touch of Italian energy wouldn't go out of order…

The greatest distinction between the two is covered up under the cap. The 1.5-and 1.8-liter normally suctioned Mazda motors have been supplanted by a 500 Abarth-sourced turbocharged 1.4-liter with 160 HP and 184 lb/ft (241 Nm) that drives the back wheels by means of a six-speed manual or auto transmission.

Fiat's little roadster will be accessible in two trim levels, Classica and Lusso. Clients can pick one of six outside paint hues, including Rosso Passione (Red Clear Coat), Bianco Gelato (White Clear Coat), Nero Cinema (Jet Black Metallic), Grigio Argento (Gray Metallic), Grigio Moda (Dark Gray Metallic) and Bronzo Magnetico (Bronze Metallic), in addition to a tri-coat Bianco Perla (Crystal White Pearl) that is select to the Lusso variation.

To check the dispatch of the 124 Spider in LA, the initial 124 cases will be offered in the Prima Edizione Lusso restricted version with a blue Azzuro Italia paint, Saddle calfskin seats and a memorial plaque.

Fiat reported that its new, back wheel drive roadster will hit the US market in summer 2016.
